Wait -- what? Well, it is a known fact that Samsung has on several occasions bundled Microsoft mobile apps, such as Skype, OneDrive, and OneNote, among many others, on its smartphones and tablet devices. But now, after the official unveiling of its newest flagship devices -- the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus -- the South Korean tech giant has apparently decided to join forces with Microsoft in releasing a Galaxy S8 Microsoft edition. Indeed, Microsoft is now accepting preorders for the special edition Galaxy phablet at its retail outlets in the United States weeks ahead of the scheduled April 21st launch date of the Galaxy S8 devices.
Considering it is named as such, the Galaxy S8 Microsoft Edition will come preinstalled with a bunch of Microsoft owned mobile and software features, including Office, Outlook, and even Cortana, just to name a few examples. With regards to Cortana, it should be interesting to see how it will co-exist with Bixby, Samsung’s own artificial intelligence driven digital assistant that made its debut with the debut of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus.
A spokesperson for Microsoft has confirmed that the special edition release will apply to both the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus. What happens is that when newly purchased Microsoft editions will connect to a Wi-Fi network, all of the Microsoft owned stuff will be downloaded and installed. Sure, the newest Galaxy phablets already come with Office, but the Microsoft edition will add Excel, Outlook, Cortana, OneDrive, OneNote, Bing, Groove, Skype, and MSN News, plus a whole lot more. On top of that, productivity apps will be arranged on the Microsoft Edition’s home screen, and users will enjoy extra accessibility to other Microsoft apps and services like LinkedIn, and Wunderlist, among many others.
For those who missed this week’s biggest smartphone news, Samsung has finally introduced the newest addition to its Galaxy lineup of smartphones. The Galaxy S8 features a 5.8 inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display screen with a resolution of 2,960 by 1,440 pixels, while the Galaxy S8 Plus comes with a whopping 6.2 inch display screen with a resolution of 2,960 by 1,440 pixels. On their rear side, the phablets pack a dual pixel 12 megapixel camera, and then pair it with an 8 megapixel selfie shooter on the front side. Processors wise, the devices are fitted with an eight core 64 bit 10 nanometer chip set, aided with 4 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM) and 64 gigabytes of built in memory. Other notable features include an IP68 water proofing rating, a 3,000 mAh battery (3,500 mAh battery for the Galaxy S8 Plus), and Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat mobile operating system.
