Here is some good news for those who want to avail of an unlimited option from Verizon Wireless but do not want to get a postpaid plan -- the Big Red now offers unlimited on its prepaid plans. Starting immediately, mobile users can choose to get unlimited voice calls, text messaging, and fast data for $80 a month for one line of service. For good measure, this option also comes with unlimited international text messaging to over 200 countries across the globe, as well as unlimited voice calls to both Canada and Mexico.
One can say that the biggest wireless carrier in the United States has come full circle, so to speak. Back in February early this year, the mobile operator had already brought back its unlimited high speed data option on postpaid plans. Like the new prepaid unlimited option, the Verizon Unlimited postpaid plan also comes with a price of $80 a month, and already offers unlimited voice calls, unlimited domestic and international text messaging, and unlimited 4G LTE data, and also unlimited voice calls to Mexico and Canada.
But users should know that there is one key thing that separates the Big Red’s postpaid and prepaid unlimited plans, and that is video streaming. For those looking to get Verizon Wireless’ prepaid unlimited option, know that video streaming will be restricted to 480p, which is actually okay when you are watching video content on mobile device display screens, but it is definitely hot HD. In the carrier’s postpaid unlimited plan, video streaming will not be restricted whatsoever, which means users can fully enjoy streams at up to 1,080p. Moreover, postpaid unlimited offers up to 10 gigabytes of fast mobile hotspot use on a monthly basis, while tethering is not allowed on prepaid unlimited.
Whether they are choosing postpaid or prepaid unlimited, mobile users should be reminded that Verizon Wireless will be deprioritizing customers who go beyond 22 gigabytes of 4G LTE data use in any given month. In other words, in times of heavy network use, connection speeds may be slowed down. This practice is actually not uncommon -- apart from Verizon prepaid, other prepaid unlimited options offered by mobile operators such as Sprint’s Boost Mobile ($50 a month) and Virgin Mobile ($60 a month), and T-Mobile’s MetroPCS ($60 a month) also slow down data speeds beyond the 23 gigabyte or 30 gigabyte limit.
