As competition in the prepaid market continues to intensify, the fifth biggest wireless carrier in America has decided to increase the data on its prepaid mobile plans. Indeed, US Cellular is now including 3 gigabytes of high speed data on its $45 per month Simple Connect Prepaid option (previously, it was only at 2 gigabytes of data), while also raising the data on its $60 a month plan from 5 gigabytes to 6 gigabytes, and then for good measure, adding a $75 per month plan that offers 12 gigabytes.
On top of all that, US Cellular has also boosted the data caps on its Ready Connect Prepaid options as part of a limited time only special offer. Those availing of the $45 a month plan can now enjoy 4 gigabytes of data monthly, while the $55 a month plan now offers 8 gigabytes and the $75 a month plan now at 12 gigabytes. By the way, Ready Connect Prepaid plans are made available by way of Walmart and Dollar General locations.
Grant Leech, the vice president of brand management at US Cellular, has stated via a press release that the months of February and March are typically high demand periods especially for prepaid related purchases. With its latest move of boosting the data allotments on its prepaid plans, US Cellular is giving prepaid users even more incentive to avail of its services.
It should be noted though that any mobile plan offered by US Cellular at $35 per month through both services already come with unlimited voice calls as well as text messaging. Moreover, mobile users are downgraded to 2G connection speeds if they ever exceed their data allotments in any given month.
Prepaid was once under-prioritized by most wireless carriers in the United States, but recent quarters have seen increased competition in this particular mobile market, with recent efforts by major US wireless carriers now signify that they are now putting more attention to prepaid as compared before.
For instance, just this week, AT&T’s prepaid arm Cricket Wireless increased the data caps on its plans. Even industry leader Verizon Wireless has started joining in on the prepaid fun -- near the start of this year, the Big Red announced that it has begun selling prepaid mobile services by way of exclusive dealers, and has already rolled out five stores -- a couple in the city of Las Vegas, Nevada, two more in Phoenix, and another in Socorro, Texas.
