Subscribers of Sprint can now pay for mobile service that their loved ones or contacts can use in Mexico and El Salvador. The major US wireless carrier has accomplished this by joining forces with Movistar Mexico and Movistar El Salvador, which are both ran by telecoms giant Telefonica. Specifically, this new program from Sprint lets its existing customers who are subscribers of eligible postpaid plans to pay for a family member’s, relative’s, or friend’s Movistar mobile plan as long as that person is based in either Mexico or El Salvador.
Also, this arrangement is made possible by way of the World Top-Up, a free app from Sprint that is made available for both Android and iOS mobile users. The mobile operator’s subscribers can use this app to sign up their family and friends for Plan Conectados, which is a new prepaid mobile plan (more on this later). Furthermore, Sprint’s World Top-Up app also lets customers send cash to prepaid accounts in 23 other countries in Latin America and in the Caribbean region.
So what exactly does the Plan Conectados option offer? Available for $25 in Mexico and El Salvador, the plan comes with unlimited national voice calls and text messaging (in El Salvador, it offers unlimited calls on network and 300 minutes of voice calls off network). Those based in mexico can enjoy unlimited voice calls and text messaging to the US, while those in El Salvador get 400 minutes voice calls to the US. The plan also offers 7 gigabytes of data in Mexico, and 4 gigabytes of data in El Salvador.
It should be noted that for both Mexico and El Salvador Movistar users, unlimited voice calls and text messaging do not cover audio, images, or video content. Also, all data, voice call minutes and text messages will expire after a period of 30 days (of when allowances are used up), with VoIP calls not included. The 30 day period will start as soon as the Movistar user gets a confirmation text message with regards to their Movistar account.
So how does one go about getting a Plan Conectador account for family and friends? The first step is to download and install the World Top-Up app from Google Play and iTunes. Then after that, it is just a matter of picking the address of family and friends one would like to set up the mobile service for, and choosing Plan Conectados and then tapping send. Remember that one can not create a Movistar account for loved ones or send cash to prepaid accounts if the user is not subscribed to an eligible postpaid Sprint billing account.
