The fourth biggest wireless carrier in America has decided to introduce a new special offer involving one of Apple’s flagship devices last year -- the iPhone 6s. The iPhone 6s may no longer be the most current iPhone offering (due to the release of this year’s iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus), but by any measure, it is still a pretty impressive smartphone. Moreover, it still does look like the newest iPhone model, so this new deal from Sprint should still attract customers.
Specifically, the major US wireless carrier is launching a two for one deal that features the 64 gigabyte edition of the iPhone 6s. To take full advantage of this particular offer, customers just need to browse Sprint plans with this deal for a couple of lines of service, select the deal and check out the usual way, and then Sprint will credit back one of the phone payments every month on the customer’s bill.
It bears noting that this new two for one iPhone 6s deal from Sprint is for lease payment only. Also, for those customers who are looking to avail of this offer, they need to remember that leaving before the 18 month lease term will mean that they will be made to pay the remaining balance of the phone payments. At the end of the lease, customers can either decide on moving to a new handset, or pay out the remaining balance (estimated at $175) if they choose to keep their iPhone 6s for good.
Sprint got some attention lately after Jennifer Fritzsche, a senior analyst from Wells Fargo, wrote in a recent research note that the wireless carrier may be faring better than other rival networks when it comes to iPhone 7 offers. As pointed out by Fritzsche, Sprint’s iPhone leasing initiative has allowed it enjoy a total recoverable amount per handset of $400 (at the low end) to break even/profitable at the high end.
Fritzsche arrived at her conclusions based on a couple of factors: a) Sprint’s relationship with Brightstar, a used device distributor owned by Softbank, and b) its strategy of offering the iPhone on a lease, as opposed to offering it on an equipment installment plan. Because of its connection with Brightstar, Sprint has put itself in a good position to maximize the value of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s units being traded in, better than any rival network could. Furthermore, by deciding to go for lease deals for the iPhone 7 rather than equipment installment plans, the wireless carrier will be able to regain some of handset cost when customers hand back their device when their lease term expires.
